Commission Laurent: a collective commitment is urgently needed to improve the situation of children

The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) today issued three major messages to the government and all stakeholders concerned with children's rights during its appearance before the Special Commission on the Rights of Children and Youth Protection (Commission Laurent).

Montréal, May 28 2020 –The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) today issued three major messages to the government and all stakeholders concerned with children's rights during its appearance before the Special Commission on the Rights of Children and Youth Protection (Commission Laurent). First of all, the CDPDJ believes it is essential to take the best means to reach children and ensure that their voices are truly heard in Québec. It is also necessary to guarantee their participation in any decision affecting them. Second, children must know and understand their rights better in order to have them respected. The same goes for their families and the people who work with children. The third message is that without appropriate funding, youth protection efforts are at risk of being diluted.
