Racial and social profiling: the SPVM must better identify this systemic problem to counter it

Following the publication of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal's (SPVM) strategic plan on racial and social profiling this week, the Commission deplores the lack of publication of data on the presumed "racial affiliation" and social condition of individuals subjects of police actions, which would have provided a more realistic picture of this phenomenon, and is an important recommendation made by the Commission in 2011 and reiterated many times since.

Montréal, December 14, 2018 –Following the publication of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal's (SPVM) strategic plan on racial and social profiling this week, the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse deplores the lack of publication of data on the presumed "racial affiliation" and social condition of individuals subjects of police actions, which would have provided a more realistic picture of this phenomenon, and is an important recommendation made by the Commission in 2011 and reiterated many times since.
