Inclusion of special needs students in Québec schools : an open letter to Le Devoir

The title of Marie-Andrée Chouinard's editorial of January 8 in Le Devoir, tragically echoes a concern expressed by former president of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse, Gaétan Cousineau, who signed an open letter ten years ago entitled : "Special needs students in Québec schools : To avoid backtracking, an inclusive school is needed ". This editorial responds to the wish expressed by Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge, to add specialized classes to meet the needs of an ever-increasing number of special needs students. The Commission also wishes to express its concern about this approach.
