Fear, exclusion, violation of rights: acts of hate have a real human and social cost, concludes a groundbreaking study by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse
Montreal, September 24, 2019 - The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse today unveiled the results of a field study on xenophobic acts of hate, notably Islamophobic acts, which provides better documentation of the phenomenon and the importance of the human and social consequences of these acts. Indeed, the impacts can be very serious for the people who suffer them, but the communities targeted and society as a whole are also affected. After conducting nearly 140 interviews over a two-year period with people claiming to be victims of hate, organizations and police services across Québec, the Commission presents a portrait of the situation, makes recommendations to the government and other stakeholders and makes commitments to counter this phenomenon.
