I am being insulted online because of something I posted on social media. What can I do?
Online harassment, or cyberbullying, is becoming more common. In some cases, it is a criminal offence. It is very important not to delete the offending messages, because you will need them as evidence if you file a complaint.
If you are being cyberbullied on the basis of any of the 14 personal characteristics that are prohibited grounds for discrimination under the Charter, such as your age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc., confirm whether you can file a complaint with the Commission.

If cyberbullying is threatening the life or safety of you or someone you know, report it to your local police.
To prevent and discourage all forms of online harassment:
- do not engage with the person who is bullying you
- never give out your personal information
- if you are younger than age 18, tell a trusted adult about what is happening
