Preliminary Response of the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse concerning the Consultation on Systemic Discrimination and Racism

Montréal, October 18, 2017 — The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse takes note of the decision announced today by the Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusiveness to withdraw its mandate to lead the Consultation on Systemic Discrimination and Racism.

The Commission notes a major shift in direction in the new format introduced by Minister David Heurtel.

The Commission will review the details of the ministry’s new approach before commenting further on the government's decision.

The Commission has a mandate to ensure the promotion and respect of the principles set out in the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, which include issues related to discrimination and racism..
