Target clientele
This training session is intended primarily for anyone who has to handle a request for reasonable accommodation and make a decision about it, or who simply wants to better understand the concept: an employer, manager, human resources worker, union representative or association member, etc.
Objectives
- Become familiar with the relevant sections of the Québec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms;
- Understand both the concept of reasonable accommodation and its legal framework under the Charter;
- Learn about and fully understand the main guidelines for reasonable accommodation;
Prevent discrimination in your community.
Content
The individual will gain a fuller understanding of the duty to accommodate using definitions, knowledge of the issues involved and the importance of the roles that each person must fulfill. This session addresses issues related to the Charter right to equality; discrimination; concepts of reasonable accommodation; and the assessment of undue hardship. Tools are also provided to facilitate processing requests for accommodation.
Educational approach
Various approaches may be used: formal lectures, a participatory approach, sharing/discussions, concrete examples, simulation exercises, etc.
